Godzilla awoke the next day with a startled gasp. He nearly panicked, expecting any moment to suffocate,
but quickly collected his wits and realized that his lungs were working fine. They had kept up long enough for his G-cells
to repair them, and now he was fine. Godzilla lifted his head, sand pouring off it. He peered down, he was once again partially
buried in sand. He must’ve missed another sandstorm.
Godzilla shifted his glance to the sands in front of him. There was a large dune of sand, but nothing else. Godzilla casually
stood up and approached the dune, which appeared to be the buried remains of his late opponent. Godzilla lowered his head
and sniffed the dune, Gorosaurus’ scent had been completely erased in the frenzied winds. Out of curiosity, he pawed
at the dune with his claws a little. His claws passing through the sand without obstruction, Godzilla pushed his fingers down
deeper into the sand, but still found nothing. Godzilla abruptly ripped his hand out of the dune in a ferocious swipe, tearing
the dune apart in a splash of gold. As the cloud of sand settled, Godzilla could clearly see that there was nothing under
the dune.
So now Godzilla was lost in the Gobi Desert, tired, thirsty, alone, and worst of all, he had another monster still lurking
around somewhere, waiting to ambush him. Somehow, Godzilla had a feeling today would be a really bad day.
A soft wind blew over Godzilla’s spines, cooling him down. But he knew the wind was his enemy here… if it picked
up any more than this, another sandstorm might form… and Godzilla was tired of those already. His best bet, it seemed,
was to keep moving the same direction he had been going, and hope that he’d find an exit from the desert soon.
For hours, Godzilla wandered the desert, constantly under siege by the sun’s heat. A few strong winds picked up some
sand, but no sandstorms. Light gray clouds were forming in the sky, and they did not go unnoticed. Godzilla wondered if it
was even possible to rain in such a dry, hellish place. But whether it could or not did not matter, because it didn’t.
The clouds eventually dissipated, and no precipitation came.
As Godzilla trekked through the Gobi, he kept his eye on the elevated ground in the distance. He wasn’t moving towards
it, nor did he want to. There was no more water or shade there than in the desert. But it wasn’t sand, and that was
a hint that perhaps the desert was coming to a close somewhere soon.
Then, Godzilla heard something. It was very faint at first, but it grew louder as he kept moving. It wasn’t the wind…
something else. It was so rhythmic, so familiar… Godzilla began to pick up speed, wanting to know what the noise was.
Then it hit him. Propellers.
Godzilla halted, listening. It was indeed the sound of spinning propellers, from a helicopter. That meant there were humans
nearby. And if there were humans, then surely he was close to the desert’s edge. Godzilla thought for a minute or two,
weighing his options. The only reason he was in this horrid desert at all was to avoid the humans, was it really wise to approach
them? Could he go around them somehow? Godzilla pondered it a moment.
The helicopter lowered itself slowly, the wind from it’s propeller blades kicking up clouds of sand. It was flying
low to pick up a payload of large dinosaur fossils which had been unearthed by some paleontologists that were camped out in
the region. As the cable extended from the helicopter and was fastened onto the wrapped up bones, one of the paleontologists
bellow noticed something on the horizon. At first, he thought he was seeing things. It looked like a mirage. Unfortunately
for him, however, mirages aren’t the size of a three story building. The great green blur approaching them in the distance
uttered a thunderous cry and doubled speed, racing towards them. They scattered, screaming and gathering up their supplies
and running for their tents. Several of them shouted at the helicopter pilot, pleading with them to drop the fossils and pick
them up.
Godzilla let out another roar, advancing on the humans with great haste. There was only one helicopter, he could overtake
and silence these humans easily without repercussions. Godzilla opened his mouth and breathed radioactive fire, torching the
humans’ dig site. Their puny tents and jeeps melted under his wrath, and the helicopter began to gain elevation to avoid
the flames. Godzilla snarled and swung at the flying machine, ruining it and throwing it down to the ground as a crumpled
ball of iron and fire.
Godzilla towered over the flames, taking a survey of the destruction. There were no survivors, the secret of his location
would be safe for another day. Godzilla exhaled loudly, walked past the fire, and continued his journey towards the desert’s
end. In the rush to destroy the humans, he had forgotten that Gorosaurus was still around. He had forgotten that he was being
followed. He never saw the ambush coming.
Gorosaurus slammed into Godzilla’s back, throwing him face down into the sand. Godzilla snorted, blowing sand out
of his nostrils, and flipped himself over to look at his attacker. Gorosaurus roared and stomped the ground with his foot,
drool pouring off of his razor-sharp teeth. Godzilla should have known better than to have thought Gorosaurus was dead. He
had been playing dead again, no doubt. Cunning, still cunning…
Godzilla let loose an uncharged blast of his breath, forcing Gorosaurus to back up, and allowing Godzilla to get up. If
the situation weren’t so dire, he’d have been glad to have such a worthy opponent to vent his frustrations on.
At this point, however, he was more aggravated than anything.
Gorosaurus charged Godzilla, but the King of the Monsters had seen enough of that to know what to do. Godzilla dodged right,
allowing Gorosaurus to run right past him. Godzilla fired a quick blast a radioactive breath at Gorosaurus’ backside,
adding extra insult to the maneuver. Gorosaurus spun around, lifted his head skyward and roared, then charged again.
Godzilla charged towards him, meeting his charge head on. Godzilla then suddenly dropped to the ground, clutching the ground
with his claws. He raised his spines, the jagged blades slicing Gorosaurus’ chest and belly. Gorosaurus bellowed and
crashed into the ground a short distance behind Godzilla, who was now lifting himself off the ground.
As the two monsters battled with each other, neither knew that they were being observed. A dark skinned creature slithered
through the sand, drawn in by the heat of a fire and the commotion of Godzilla and Gorosaurus fighting. It moved through the
desert with speed and grace, following the action, watching with great interest.
As Gorosaurus bit down on Godzilla’s arm and forced forwards, Godzilla dug his feet into the ground and pushed back
towards his enemy, sliding back slowly. He grappled with the drooling kaiju, batting and clawing at his face. Gorosaurus kept
charging, and as the two monsters locked in combat, their observer moved in. Appearing to them only as a moving rise in the
sand, the creature darted towards them under the ground.
Bursting out of the sea of sand like a great white shark after a seal, the third monster exploded out of the desert sands
and reared up, mouth agape and eyes widened. Gorosaurus released his grip to turn and see the newcomer, and Godzilla swiftly
pulled back and backed away from his attackers.
The new monster, Cordano, was some kind of serpent, though it resembled no snake Godzilla had even seen before. Then again,
at his size, Godzilla didn’t see many snakes. Cordano hissed, flicking it’s forked tongue in and out of it’s
mouth as it moved towards Gorosaurus. Cordano, like a mythological lindorm, possessed two arms, with long claws at each finger.
It’s body was armor plated and dark in coloration, and a row of needle-like spines ran from the top of it’s head
to the tip of it’s tail.
Gorosaurus roared and began to move towards the new monster, deciding to ignore Godzilla for the moment. Godzilla crouched
down and watched as the two monsters prepared to collide, waiting for a good opening to intervene.
Cordano was the first to make a move, striking like a giant cobra and biting down on Gorosaurus’ shoulder. Gorosaurus
growled, opened his own giant maw, and seized Cordano’s neck. He lifted the snake monster off the ground, but Cordano
would not be tossed so easily. He reached out with his long arms and sank his claws into Gorosaurus’ flesh. Gorosaurus
let out a muffled roar and continued to heave Cordano over his back, the weight finally throwing him off balance. The two
monsters toppled over in a heap, shaking the ground under Godzilla’s feet.
As Cordano slithered to his feet, Godzilla saw his opportunity to single out one of the two monsters. Godzilla charged
his beam, electricity building around his jagged plates. His fully-charged heat beam shot through the arid desert air and
met Cordano’s back in a dazzling flash of blue and white light. Cordano, shoved by the force of the beam, flew forward
into the sand. Godzilla kept the beam up, blasting the sand around Cordano. As sand was kicked up and flames rose, Cordano
writhed in the flames and shrieked while Gorosaurus scrambled backwards to avoid the blast.
Godzilla kicked off the dune and ran towards Cordano, racing over the sands and through the flames. He slammed into Cordano,
knocking the monster to the ground as it tried to rise again. Godzilla pushed his foot up against Cordano’s chest and
pinned him down, lifted a clawed hand in preparation to strike Cordano, and then froze. Cordano’s mouth was open, and
energy was growing inside. Suddenly Godzilla came to a startling realization. He wasn’t the only monster with a beam.
A blinding flash of concentrated heat spewed out of Cordano’s jaws, surrounding Godzilla’s head and throwing
him off. Godzilla fell to the ground on his back, sparks and puffs of smoke showing his path through the air. Cordano slithered
to a standing position and tasted the air with his tongue, turning his attention back to Gorosaurus.
As Cordano slithered by, Godzilla opened his eyes and listened, waiting for him to pass by. Once Cordano was out of striking
range, Godzilla flipped himself over and pounced, biting down on the side of Cordano’s neck and seizing each of his
arms with his hands. Cordano screeched furiously as Godzilla held him paralyzed, while Gorosaurus watched intently. A monster
with a passion for rush tactics, this was as good a chance to cause pain as he’d ever get. Gorosaurus lowered his head,
tucked in his arms, and sprang forward with all his might.
Godzilla immediately let go and jumped away as Gorosaurus slammed his skull plate into Cordano’s underbelly, expecting
Godzilla to be supporting the monster and pushing too hard. The two kaiju fell over each other and hit the ground so hard
it left a faint crater in the sand.
The two monsters grappled with each other, struggling to stand up while at the same time trying to pull the other down.
Godzilla released his heat beam at the two monsters, setting flame to the messy confrontation. Cordano was the first to back
out, dropping to his belly and slithering away, sliding into the sand and disappearing. Gorosaurus, meanwhile, staggered back
and roared as the flames covered his body. Unable to escape the severe heat, the giant dinosaur fell over backwards and began
rolling in the sand frantically, trying to douse the flames.
Godzilla charged his beam again and fired at Gorosaurus, concentrating his firepower on his original foe. Gorosaurus roared
in pain as the severe heat intensified, and slammed himself repeatedly against the sand. But it was no use, the heat was so
great that now the sand was melting into glass. Searing Gorosaurus’ flesh in it’s molten state, it soon hardened
into solid glass, shattering and throwing up cutting shards as Gorosaurus slammed against it. Godzilla ceased the beam and
watched as Gorosaurus flailed in agony, unaware that Cordano was nearby.
Behind Godzilla and a fair distance away, Cordano pulled himself out of the sand and glared at his prey. Cordano arced
his tail over his head, hissed, and whipped his tail in the air. The spines on his tail shot off like darts and zoomed towards
Godzilla’s back. The projectile quills hit Godzilla’s back, left of his spines, and pierced into his flesh. Godzilla
pulled back his head and roared in pain, falling to his knees.
Cordano slipped into the sand again, burrowing towards Godzilla. Godzilla winced, the needles were in deep, and they’d
be hard to pull out. But he needed to dispose of his enemies before he could worry about that. Gorosaurus, laying on his stomach
in a smoldering crater of sand, embers, and shattered glass, was no threat at the moment. If the beast had the endurance to
keep fighting, it would need time to recover first. Godzilla’s main objective now was Cordano.
At that very moment, the thick-skinned snake monster burst out of the sand in front of Godzilla, lunging for Godzilla’s
throat. Godzilla raised his arm, clenching his claws into a makeshift fist, and backhanded the attacking monster in the face,
sending him flying backwards to the sands. Godzilla roared and pulled himself up again as Cordano prepared to attack again.
With another whip of his tail, Cordano sent more quills flying towards Godzilla. Godzilla tried to duck down and avoid
them, but two still managed to find his right shoulder. Godzilla let out a distressed roar as the spines pierced his skin
and sent waves of pain coursing through his body. Godzilla stumbled back, righted himself, and fired his breath weapon. Cordano
shrieked and dropped to the ground, dodging Godzilla’s attack completely. Springing back up as soon as the beam had
passed, Cordano exhaled a blast of fiery breath, searing Godzilla’s neck and chest. Godzilla recoiled, shook himself,
and braced himself as Cordano sped towards him.
Cordano brought down one of his claw-tipped hands, slashing Godzilla’s chest. Blood sprayed out as the long, black
claws raked through Godzilla’s skin and left crimson lines. Cordano swung again, cutting deeper into Godzilla’s
scaly hide and forcing him back. Cordano hissed and lunged into another swing, but Godzilla quickly took a defensive stance,
arms raised and head lowered. Cordano’s swipe hit Godzilla’s arms, chipping off scales but failing to cause significant
damage. Godzilla pulled away his hands, giving Cordano a brief glimpse of Godzilla’s face: Eyes narrowed to slits, nostrils
flared, and blue flame building in his razor-toothed mouth.
Godzilla released a full charge blast, hitting Cordano at point-blank range. Cordano let out a shrill cry as it’s
body was rocked by the azure explosion of radioactive power and flew backwards, trailing smoke and sparks. He landed on his
back, tail limply descending to the sand. Godzilla pushed forward, energy still surging up and down his back, and reached
down at the monster’s tail. Pushing the pines down flat in his mighty grip, Godzilla grabbed hold with both hands and
hurled Cordano off the ground, throwing him straight into the sky.
Cordano wailed, flipping several times as he ascended, and then descended with great velocity. As the terrified monster
fell from the air, he fired off another spray of spines from his tail at Godzilla. But it was no use, Godzilla’s fins
were already alight with dancing blue fire. Godzilla unleashed a shotgun blast that incinerated the spiny missiles and collided
with Cordano in a fiery explosion. Cordano went flying, finally crashing into the ground so hard it threw sand nearly a thousand
feet into the air. Godzilla let out a bellow, lowered his head, and charged.
Godzilla skidded to a halt at the smoking crater of sand where Cordano had been reunited with the Earth. Cordano was gone,
buried or burrowed, hidden in the sand. But Godzilla was tired of being ambushed by his enemy, he shoved his hands down into
the sand and began digging out Cordano, heaving back giant mounds of sand with his claws. As Godzilla dug, his claws collided
with hard scales, and he knew he had hit his target. Cordano burst out of the ground in a spray of sand, mouth open and seething
with fiery energy. Cordano was about to use his breath weapon- or at least, he thought he was going to. Godzilla suddenly
grabbed the snake monster’s head, forcing his jaws shut seconds before he unleashed his fury. The blast went off in
Cordano’s mouth, black smoke and fire gushing out through spaces in between his teeth. The serpentine kaiju’s
body convulsed, spines standing straight up, then went limp. Godzilla let go, and Cordano fell to the ground with a lifeless
thump.
Godzilla stood over the fallen monster and snorted, placing his foot over Cordano’s head and roaring triumphantly.
Meanwhile, struggling to his feet in broken glass and burning hot sand, Gorosaurus was alive and kicking. He listened as Godzilla
bellowed to the heavens, as if challenging the world. After seeing him dispose of such a vicious enemy, Gorosaurus was wary
to attack again. But he knew this could be his only opportunity to eat for months, or longer.
Gorosaurus broke into a maddened sprint towards Godzilla, drool and blood clinging to his jaw as he opened and closed it
anxiously. Godzilla turned as he heard footfalls, but didn’t react quick enough to see what was coming. Gorosaurus’
jaws slammed shut on his should, and he threw back his head and screeched in blinding pain. He felt Gorosaurus’ serrated
teeth bury themselves in his flesh, and then with a gruesome twist of his head, rip a chunk of his flesh off. Godzilla fell
to the ground screeching, blood oozing from the massive wound. Gorosaurus titled back his head and swallowed the still-warm
flesh with startling voracity and lumbered towards his fallen enemy for more.
Wincing, Godzilla stood up to meet his attacker. Gorosaurus opened his jaws, displaying his blood stained fangs, and lurched
towards Godzilla’s arm. His movements slowed down by the intense pain, Godzilla’s lower arm and hand were engulfed
in Gorosaurus’ jaws. Godzilla snarled and grimaced as the giant mouth closed on him. He did his best to ignore the pain,
and tried to think, tried to reason a way to fend off the beast. It came to him, and he executed the move.
Hand in Gorosaurus’ gullet, Godzilla spread his fingers and frantically felt around inside the cavernous maw. He
found what he was looking for, the tongue. Godzilla grabbed Gorosaurus’ long, fleshy tongue in his claws and squeezed
hard. Gorosaurus blurted out a choking growl and swung his jaws wide open, stumbling back and away from Godzilla.
Godzilla looked down at his arm, it was coated in saliva, and deep tooth marks showed where Gorosaurus’ bite had
struck. He looked up at Gorosaurus, bared his teeth, and began formulating his next course of action. His eyes darted around
the battlefield looking for anything he could use against his enemy. Unfortunately, the only thing he spotted was a disadvantage:
Cordano was beginning to move.
Gorosaurus roared and charged Godzilla, who was quickly running out of options. He dug in his feet, closed his eyes, and
braced for impact. Godzilla heard Gorosaurus’ vicious roar again, and a thunderous crash, but the blow never came. Reluctantly,
Godzilla opened his eyes.
Before him, Gorosaurus had sunk his teeth in all right, but not on Godzilla. Cordano had pounced towards them, and the
ravenous dinosaur had turned and caught him in his jaws. Gorosaurus stumbled backwards under the weight, steadied himself,
and threw Cordano to the ground. Godzilla watched the monsters tangle and war, glanced at the bleeding wound on his shoulder,
and took in a deep breath. How easy it would be to simply run away, while these two idiot monsters tore at each other’s
throats. But Godzilla was not one to leave things, especially fights, unfinished.
Godzilla lumbered towards the fighting monsters, baring his double-rowed fangs. The two grappling monsters ignored him,
but not for long. Godzilla reached into the fray with one scaly hand and grabbed the closest monster, Cordano, by the neck.
He pulled the serpent away with a strong tug, throwing him aside and then advancing on Gorosaurus.
Godzilla struck Gorosaurus’ head with a claw swipe, momentarily stunning him and setting him up for another free
attack. Godzilla exhaled his nuclear breath, hitting Gorosaurus in the chest and blasting him onto his back. The second the
enlarged theropod hit the ground, Godzilla spun around to meet Cordano, who’s now foiled attempt at an ambush was obvious.
Quickly, Cordano tried to compensate for the failed attack by releasing a blast of searing hot breath. Godzilla ducked, the
blast passing over his shoulder. Godzilla cringed, feeling the extreme heat through his wound. He pushed forward and tackled
Cordano, pulling him down to the ground.
Godzilla pulled back his arm, claws fully extended and ready to tear at Cordano’s face, when suddenly he felt jaws
close down around it. Godzilla screeched and looked over his should to see Gorosaurus latched on. Cordano gave a flicker of
his tongue, then struck towards Godzilla, but the persistent kaiju countered. Grabbing the back of Gorosaurus’ head
in his other hand, Godzilla heaved the bloodthirsty dinosaur over his shoulder and onto Cordano. The spiny kaiju was pinned
down and smothered under the weight of Gorosaurus, who was trying frantically to get to his feet.
Godzilla lifted one foot, glaring furiously as Gorosaurus lifted himself up. Godzilla shoved his foot forwards, kicking
Gorosaurus in the chest and throwing back to the ground, squashing Cordano again. Godzilla leaned over the pile of monsters
and slammed his claws into Gorosaurus face again and again, hammering the monster in the head repeatedly, blood beginning
to smear on his claws and hands. Godzilla kept swinging blows, adrenaline pumping like mad, eyes alight with fierce intensity.
With one last, powerful swing, Godzilla pounded Gorosaurus to the ground and broke off from his assault. Gorosaurus lay on
his belly, eyes closed, blood streaming from his mouth and nostrils, as well as the numerous cuts and slashes that marked
his cranium. Next to him, his tail still pinned down, laid Cordano, breathing heavily. There wasn’t much fight left
in him, if any at all.
Godzilla crouched down, lowering his head and looking Cordano straight in the eye. Godzilla narrowed his eyes into the
most threatening, bone-chilling stare any living creature had ever seen, and then. Cordano may not have possessed Godzilla’s
intelligence, but even an animal knew when to back down. Cordano pulled back into the sand, maintaining his eye lock with
Godzilla until he disappeared completely in the sand.
An hour later, Godzilla was nearing the outer regions of the Gobi, solid land in plain sight. Though tired and sore, Godzilla
was happy. Moving out in the open, Godzilla could care less if the humans saw him. Nothing the humans possessed could possibly
be worse than another day in the desert. As Godzilla reached the end of the desert sands, he wondered if he’d ever see
either of the monsters again. Not likely, he decided. Cordano clearly knew better than to mess with Godzilla again, and even
Gorosaurus may have been playing dead, he didn’t see how he could last much longer in the Gobi without any food. Unless
he could catch Cordano, which seemed unlikely. If anything, the two monsters would probably die of exhaustion, fighting each
other in the middle of nowhere. Godzilla tried to take comfort in the thought, and then departed.
